Esto es, en demasiadas ocasiones, lo que la Iglesia ha hecho con el Evangelio de Jesús. Por supuesto que en las iglesias se habla del Evangelio, se predica y se respeta, pero la Iglesia no está organizada ni gestionada de acuerdo con el Evangelio. Tampoco la gran mayoría de los cristianos vivimos de acuerdo a él. Más aún, en muchas cuestiones vivimos contra él. Lo que más cuida la Iglesia no es la fidelidad al Evangelio, sino la observancia de la Religión y, por eso, hemos convertido el Evangelio en un acto más de la Religión, siendo así que fue la propia Religión la que mató a Jesús porque no soportaba su Evangelio. ¿Y por qué ha ocurrido esto? ¿Cuáles son sus consecuencias? ¿Qué futuro puede tener una Iglesia que vive en semejante contradicción? ¿Acaso Jesús no fue un hombre profundamente religioso? Y si así fue, si anunció el Reino de Dios, si decimos de él que es el Hijo de Dios, ¿cómo afirmamos que la Religión mató a Jesús?A estas preguntas y a muchas otras intenta responder este libro. Con temor y temblor, pero también con esperanza.
